James Michael Raymond

James Michael Raymond, age 64, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at Greater Southside Health and Rehab in Des Moines.

James was born on November 30, 1960, the son of James Joe and Maria Catherina (Romeo) Raymond. He was raised in central Iowa and graduated from Ames High School. He worked for many years at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines as a maintenance technician, where he was known for his dedication and hard work.

James had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, sitting by campfires, and spending time fishing. He was also an avid animal lover, especially devoted to his dogs. Known to many around Des Moines as "The Snake Man," James often attended local farmers markets where he proudly shared his fascination with reptiles.

Above all, James loved his family fiercely. He is survived by his sisters, Diane Byers and Nancy (Terry) Bell; nieces and nephews, Mandy, Malina, Shawna, Shane, and Buster; and great-nieces and nephews, Michael, Johnny, Dominic, Jayden, Tori, Chance, and Dredynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Michael Byers.

James will be remembered for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and love of nature and animals. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
