James Alan Michael

James "Jim" Alan Michael, 63, of Des Moines Iowa, passed away on August 22, 2026.

Jim was born on October 19th, 1962 to Denzil and Virginia (Lovell) Michael. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School.

Jim was employed as a truck driver for Elder Corporation and also experienced operating heavy machinery for previous employers. He followed in his Dad's footsteps as a mechanic when he first entered the work force and he was always working on automotive projects at home and often called upon by friends, family and neighbors for his expertise.

Jim always was willing to help people in need. He had such a big heart and donated his time as well as money to someone needing a handout.

He grew up going to USAC races and Nascar Races all around the country with his family. Jim also enjoyed cycling and motorcycles, sports cars and loved several outdoor activities, especially boating on the river. For the last 40 years, Jim has had another extended family that has shared his passion for boating on the river. This close knit group of friends has compassionately been by his side through to the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bob.

Jim is survived by his sister, Jane (Chuck) Noble of Pleasantville, IA and stepson Ray (and Katie) Noble along with 2 grandkids; niece Christina (Mike) Myer and daughter Mollie of Norwalk; sister-in-law, Kelly Michael of Des Moines and her daughter Denali Samuelson of West Des Moines and her son Aaron.

A celebration of life will be held September 12, 2026 from 1pm to 4pm at Elks Lodge, 2060 NW 94th St in Clive.
