George Lester Corley, Jr.

George Lester Corley Jr., 77, lost his battle to dementia and passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 14, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend to all who knew him.

George Jr was born on December 8, 1946, in Buckhannon, West Virginia to George Sr. and Texie. He was one of 5 children. At the age of 13, they moved as a family to the state of Iowa where they would all finish growing up and George Jr would meet his wife, Mary. George Jr. and Mary got married April 30 th , 1966, and later had three children, Timothy, Matthew Sr. and James who they raised on the North Side of Des Moines.

George Jr. loved to joke, laugh and spend time with family. His Sundays were filled with watching football and cheering on the Chicago Bears. He loved being outdoors enjoying the fresh air. His favorite outdoor activity was fishing and attempting to catch the biggest fish.

George Jr was the last of his siblings to pass. He is now reunited with his parents; George Sr. and Texie, sisters; Cynitha, Shelia, and Jean, brother Lee and his middle son, Matthew Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Mary (Jensen) Corley, sons; Timothy (Tina) Corley and James R. Corley, grandchildren; Miranda Corley, Matthew (Breanna) Corley, Christina (Rene) Senecaut, Nicole (Michael) Sihavong, James J. Corley, and Cassandra Corley, along with his 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and in-law family

There will be a small private family viewing later this week as well as a Celebration of Life that will be set later for out-of-town family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family for cause yet to be named.
