Gene Daniel Rockey

Gene Daniel Rockey, 78, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on July 14, 2026, at Parkridge Specialty Care.

Gene was born on August 18, 1947, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Richard and Edith (Ellis) Rockey. He graduated from Davenport Central High School and spent his working years in the concrete construction field. Gene was known for his strong work ethic and took pride in helping build projects that would serve local families and businesses for years to come.

Although Gene was disabled for many years, he never let his circumstances define him. He had an incredible gift for making people smile and considered it his personal mission to brighten the day of everyone he encountered. His sense of humor, warm personality, and positive outlook left a lasting impression on caregivers, family members, and friends.

Family was the center of Gene's life. He loved his children, grandchildren and siblings deeply and often spoke fondly of his nieces, nephews, cousins and the many memories they shared. He also enjoyed reminiscing about his years in construction, telling stories about former coworkers and lifelong friends whose friendships meant so much to him.

Gene is survived by his children, Pat (Tracy) Rockey, Wendy Rockey, and Christine Rockey; his brother, Jim (Marcia) Rockey and his sister, Peggy Romero; his grandchildren, Sara, Taylor, Jacob, Jenny, Jamie, and Sadie; his great-grandchildren, Odin, Arya, Grace, and Madison; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Edith and his sisters, Roberta Ryan and Jackie Rockey.

Special love is sent to all those who helped care for Gene throughout the years.

A celebration of life will take place at Vineyard Church on 3rd Street in Muscatine, IA on August 22, 2026 from 2:00-4:00.
