Des Moines- Garry Budgell 75, of Des Moines Iowa passed away on June 19, 2025.
Garry was born on April 11, 1950 in St John's, Newfoundland, Canada and in 1964 when all coal mining operations shut down and jobs were scarce the family relocated to Toronto Ontario. Garry built his life in Ontario completing school, attending a culinary internship in Banff National Park located in Alberta, Canada at the Lake Louise Hotel. Wanting to keep his love of cooking to himself as a hobby he became a production Manager at Humpty Dumpty Potato Chip Company. In 1983 his best friend introduced him to his sister and that's brought him to Des Moines, Iowa.
Garry was self employed for many years as a handy man. He worked at Echo Valley Golf and Country club from 1991 until his retirement 2011.
Garry is survived by his wife, Carolyne; his children Charlotte (Jay) Bergan of Ankeny Iowa and Ian (Jessica) Budgell of Orangeville, Ontario, Canada.; sister Marilyn Reid of Collingwood, Ontario, brother Bruce (Carol) Budgell of New Brunswick,,Canada and sister Beverley (Charly) Telfser of Meaford,Ontario. brother in law Tom Harper (Nancy) Harper of Lake St Louis, Mo; sister in law Marie Harper of Harriston, Ontario. Grandchildren Michael Allen, Jessica Bergan, Lilly Budgell, Myles Budgell ; and 15 nieces and nephews of USA and Canada.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Mary Budgell; brothers Dave and Cliff Budgell, brother in law Robert Harper; sister in law Agnes Budgell.
Garry loved his family, cooking, fishing trips to Canada, camping, traveling and his Windsor Canadian and pepsi.
Per Garry's wishes, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.
