Edith Eleanor Mikesell

Sep 2, 1943 — Oct 31, 2026

Edith Eleanor Mikesell "Edie", age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 31, 2026.

Edie was born September 2, 1943, Edith was the daughter of Roy and Lydia Ellis. She spent many years working in the pharmacy for Dahl's. She was united in marriage to James Mikesell, with whom she built a life centered around family and community.

Edie loved her family more than anything else in the world and was a natural giver to everyone around her. One of 17 children, she hosted immense 4th of July celebrations and held Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings for her kids, doing all the cooking until she no longer could. She was famous for her Christmas cookies and Halloween popcorn balls. Quick-witted, remarkably smart, and wise, her husband often joked she should have been a lawyer. Above all, Edie was her family's biggest fan and cheerleader-never missing a game and even coaching softball.

Edie was preceded in death by her son, Mike Mikesell, and her grandson, Cody Mikesell and many family members.

She is survived by her devoted husband, James Mikesell; her children, Roy Mikesell (Darla), Tacey Laurie (Donnie), Tracey Mikesell (Shawna); her siblings, Gary Ellis, Donald Ellis, and Sharon Kilby; as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
