Earl Thompson

Earl Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 12, 1926, in Iowa, the son of Fred L. Thompson and Leatha Knapp.

Earl was a devoted husband to Opal Strong, with whom he shared many wonderful years of companionship and love. His commitment to family was unwavering, and he leaves behind cherished memories that will be treasured forever.

Earl found great joy in attending baseball and softball games, cheering on his favorite teams with enthusiasm. He also found relaxation and excitement at Prairie Meadows, where he spent many enjoyable hours.

Throughout his life, Earl was a true jack of all trades, holding numerous jobs and mastering each one with dedication and skill. His hard work and determination earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Earl is survived by his children, Peggy Herweh, Ellen (Jim) Beaty, Earl Thompson Sr., Dixie Case, Donna (Tony) Luna, Debra (Ron) Moraine, Robert (Melodi) Thompson, and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings.
