Dillayna Thomas

Dillayna Thomas, 63, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on February 25, 2025, in her hometown. She was born on September 18, 1961, to Gilbert Thomas and Nellie Kennedy and spent her life in Des Moines, surrounded by family and friends.

Dillayna had a strong work ethic and held many roles throughout her life, including housekeeper, phlebotomist, CNA, and beautician. No matter the job, she brought warmth, care, and a nurturing spirit to those around her.

She was a true homebody at heart but loved the occasional camping trip with her kids. A lover of country music, Dillayna had a voice that could fill a room, and she was always ready to sing, dance, and bring joy to those around her. She was the life of the party-bold, direct, and never afraid to speak her mind.

Above all, Dillayna cherished her family. She was a caretaker by nature, always putting her loved ones first and making sure they knew how much they meant to her. Her presence, love, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Pepel; children, Michael (Michelle), Rachel (D.J.), Jason (LeeAnna), John, Cheyanna, Raymond and Shaina (Ryssa); 16 wonderful grandchildren; great-grandchild, Asher Michael; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dillayna was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Mary Tina, Gilbert, Larry and Margaret Ellen.
