Dignan Ray Forry blessed our lives by coming into them March 11, 1999, and passed away August 13, 2023.
Dignan was the oldest of four children. He has two brothers and a sister to whom he was an example and a friend. He was a good brother and loved being the ringleader, making up games where he rigged it to win. As a young boy, he was involved in many activities to try them out, including basketball, soccer, wrestling, baseball, football, and piano lessons.
Dignan had a deep appreciation for the natural world. He took to heart values he learned in Boy Scouts, such as "leave no trace" and "do no harm." It was important to him to experience nature in its raw state. He loved camping and fishing and spent the majority of nice weather doing these things. He had a quiet disposition around animals, and they trusted him. Whether he was petting a dog, the cats, the horses, or holding his nephew, he would pat them and say, "He's a good guy."
Dignan graduated from Indianola High School in 2017. During these years he earned his Eagle Scout award by helping Wesley Woods Camp improve their riding trails. Dignan lived the Scout Oath in that he always helped other people at all times. He embodied most of the Scout Law in that he was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful and brave. Thrifty, clean and reverent... well, this was his work in progress.
Dignan participated on the high school soccer team all four years. As a sophomore his spot on the team was on the Junior Varsity team, but he was asked to play on the Varsity team as well and he spent the season playing both games each time there was a match. After high school Dignan had the opportunity to play soccer in the international league with his co-workers and enjoyed himself tremendously. Soccer was one of his passions.
After Dignan graduated, he worked full time for his uncles doing granite installation. He loved all things granite and enjoyed finding particularly beautiful pieces and imagining possible uses for them.
Dignan had a special talent for noticing people from all walks of life. He had an easy way of making friends and keeping them. Dignan's approach with people was much the same as with the wild: do no harm. He did a wonderful job of making people feel seen.
Dignan is survived by his parents, Jennifer and DJ Forry, siblings Camden Forry, Dacy Forry and Haavin Forry of Osceola IA, grandparents Ferris (Butch) and Kathy Hancock of West Des Moines IA, Mary Besnard of Gilbert AZ, Doug and Cheryl Forry of Milford TX, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
