Dickie Allen Wasson

Jan 12, 1953 — Aug 12, 2026

Dickie Allen Wasson, 73, of Leon, Iowa, passed away on August 12, 2026, at 1:43 p.m.

Dickie was born on January 12, 1953, in Leon, Iowa, to Elmer Melvin "Pete" Wasson and Stella Mae Ingram. He was one of six children and grew up in Leon, where he began building the strong-willed, hardworking, and adventurous spirit that would stay with him throughout his life.

Dickie married Sherri Simpson-Wasson on February 14, 1976, and together they had four children: Christopher Ryan "Ryan" Wasson, Tara Wasson Williamson, Tyler Brandon Wasson, and Lucas Tanner Wasson.

Dickie began his career working road construction alongside his dad. He later earned his CDL and drove a dump truck for West Des Moines Sand & Gravel for many years. He eventually became a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he worked until his health began to fail in May 2025.

Outside of work, Dickie loved being outdoors and staying busy. He enjoyed riding around town visiting friends and family, working on cars and lawnmowers, fishing, camping, and watching westerns. He was ornery, stubborn, funny, and full of personality. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was never afraid to give someone a hard time. Most of all, Dickie loved his family hard and fiercely.

Dickie spent many years with Pamela Shields, beginning in 2002, until he moved in with his oldest son, Ryan, in April 2026.

Dickie was a fighter. He was stubborn, strong-willed, and determined until his final moments. His health may have taken away some of the things he loved to do, but it never took away his fighting spirit or the love he had for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Melvin "Pete" Wasson and Stella Mae Ingram; his sister, Joyce Darlene Wasson (Charles); and his brother, Bobby Wayne Wasson (Gayle); and his half brothers, Murl Johnson and Jerry Smith.

He is survived by his siblings, Deloris Lynn Wasson-Phillips (Chris), Nancy Ann Wasson-Burton (Bill Wion), Timmie Ray Wasson (Robin), and Marilyn Rumley (Lonnie). He is also lovingly remembered by extended family, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Dickie leaves behind his four children, Christopher Ryan "Ryan" Wasson (Jessica Gibson), Tara Wasson Williamson (Demictrick), Tyler Brandon Wasson (Madison), and Lucas Tanner Wasson, and his beloved grandchildren: Keane Tyler Wasson, Jada Wasson Sorter (Austin), Destiny Aliya Marie Wasson (Angelo Rector), Gavin Tanner Alan Wasson, Gracie Leigh Ann, Brylie Elaine Maria, Grayson Joe, Clayton Michael, and Serenity Liyana Jean Williamson And his one and only Great Grandson, Huxton Ryan Sorter.

Dickie will be remembered for his ornery sense of humor, stubborn determination, love of the outdoors, love of family, and fighting spirit. He wasn't perfect, and he never claimed to be. He was simply Dad-and to his children and grandchildren, he was irreplaceable.

His life was filled with hard work, adventures, laughter, stubborn moments, family, and memories that will never be forgotten. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will live on in the memories of those who knew him, and every time his family sees the mountains, watches an old western, works on an old car or casts a fishing line, they will think of him.

Rest easy, Dad. You fought long enough.
You made it back to the mountains.
And you were surrounded by the love of your family.
We love you, and we always will.
