Diana Marie Payne

Diana Marie Payne (Locke), 62, died on December 8, 2023 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was the wife of David John Payne and they shared 21 years of marriage together.

Diana was born in Marshalltown, the daughter of Carlton "Bud" Locke, Jr. and Hazel Marie Proffitt.  She was a cashier at the Time Republican newspaper in Marshalltown. Diana enjoyed shopping at thrift stores, collecting Disney memorabilia, gardening and spoiling her three grandchildren. She was a life-long supporter of animal welfare.

Diana is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Megan Locke; grandchildren, Alexis, Alliah and Kaleb; and her cats, Bandit and Amber. She is survived by her sister, Christine (Gabe) Sheppard and her father, Carlton "Bud" Locke, Jr. Diana is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel and her sisters, Karen and Amanda.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Simplify Cremations and Funerals, 4824 SW 9th Street in Des Moines, followed by light refreshments. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Diana's name.
