Diana Lynn Dewey McFarland, 72, of Urbandale, Iowa, was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dorothy Elizabeth Johnson Dewey and Raymond Lester Dewey Jr. She joined her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2022 at Mercy Hospice of Johnston with her loving family and friends around her, after a valiant battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Diana is survived by her daughter: Jennifer Lynn McFarland Polson (Mike) of Johnston, Iowa; her son Jonathan Dewey McFarland (Nursel) of Des Moines, Iowa; her sister Kristi Dewey Hansen (predeceased Keith), her beloved grandchildren, Isabella Ayse McFarland, and Jon Michael Polson and her cherished nieces and nephews.
Diana went through the Des Moines District School graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1968. Shortly after graduation she ventured out to Denver, Colorado where she became a Certified Floral Designer. Later in life Diana went back to school earning her B.A. from Iowa State.
Diana worked as a floral designer in Des Moines and Boone area flower shops until she became the manager and lead designer of the family-owned Bob's Flowers in Boone, Iowa.
Diana and her family left Iowa with the transfer of her loving husband (Michael Dean McFarland predeceased) to Kansas. Then CA returning to her home state of Iowa.
Diana was a lifelong Christian. She was baptized in the Swedish Covenant Church, confirmed, at Westminster United Presbyterian Church of Des Moines and married in her parent's home by her home church's Pastor Basil Grimes.
As a young person Diana constantly read almost any book, she could get her hands on. She was known in her neighborhood as the Great protector of her baby sister and loved to play pick up baseball games where you would often hear the crack of her bat sending the ball for a homerun!
She loved to be with family and often just enjoyed the noise of the crowd-- sitting and observing with her sweet smile. Never needing to be on stage herself. She was not a GREAT cook- and admitted she hated to cook. Yet the things she made well were hers and she was the only one that made them for her family. No one else has her recipe for making her baking powder biscuits. The angels in heaven have a feast to taste now.
Diana was raised in a sandwich generation and lived that attitude of service to the end always wanting to help and "love on" her beloved grandchildren and delight at seeing her nieces and nephews.
Her mother gave her the legacy that grandmas were not babysitters but family members caring for the next generation. She was always her happiest when she had her grandbabies alone and just be grandma-not a babysitter.
