Dennis Studer

February 16, 1951 — June 17, 2024

Dennis Alan Studer, born February 16, 1951 in Des Moines died at home on June 17, 20/24.  He attended Sacred Heart School before graduating from Valley High School and attended Mankato State and the University of Iowa before enlisting in the army, serving in Germany.  After living in Studio City and having bit parts and a few modeling jobs, he focused on writing and research.  After living in California, he also worked at Zion National Park before returning to West Des Moines to be close to family.  He enjoyed employment at the Iowa Department for the Blind Library and Comair/DELTA airlines before retirement.  Denny was always the first to help others, loved libraries and books, cherished relics and antiques,  appreciated history, and studied genealogy.  Forever writing and reading, he dreamed of having a neighborhood  library and certainly collected the books to show for it.  He was devoted to yoga, swimming, bicycling, and hiking.   With a deep love of the outdoors and a sharp eye for wildlife and a knack for teaching others to develop their own keen senses for all of nature, he discovered  and shared the winter roosting place of a flock of long eared owls with many others to observe and learn from.  He felt forever young until he didn't.

He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle.  There will be a memorial service in the wild to honor Denny's spirit and his love of the outdoors and family.  He joins his mother, Jeanne and others who've gone before him including father, Donald and beloved niece, Madeline Globe.  He is survived by four siblings and their families- brothers David and Max (Kathleen Moench) and sisters Susan Globe (Alden) and Sally (Craig Anderson).  Important to Denny,  especially when he was younger, were nephews and nieces Paul and Sean (Lorraine), Jeana (Simon) Barcelona,  Nick (Alie), and Samantha (Gino) Chesini along with Olivia Studer, the newest addition to that clan.  Memorials in his name could go to the West Des Moines Library or, in honor of his niece who passed before him, to Madeline's Garden of Light located in the Steamboat Springs, Colorado Yampa River Botanic Park.
