Dennis Scott Long passed away peacefully at his home on November 11, 2025, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on December 23, 1955, in Colorado to Owis and Glenda (Gash) Long.

Dennis lived a full life marked by humor, faith, and an unshakable love for his family. A lifelong Miami Dolphins fan, he never gave up hope that this would be their year. At home, he could often be found cooking up something delicious and spending time with his six grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He also had a lifelong love of dogs-especially Corgis-which brought him great joy throughout his life.

Dennis had a curious mind and a generous heart. In his later years, he found deep strength and peace in his faith, which helped guide him through life's joys and challenges.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife, Deb Long (a Norwegian, as the family lovingly jokes — he miraculously survived being married to one, a true testament to his humor and patience); his three children, Christopher Long, Melanie (Samuel) Long, and David (Fawn) Long; and his six cherished grandchildren, Oliver, Logan, Freyja, Alice, Haven, and Ivy, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. He is also survived by his sisters, Terra (Kevin), Lois, Diane, and sister-in-law Lora (Donald).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Long.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Simplify Funeral Home, 4821 SW 9th St., Des Moines, Iowa 50315. Family and friends are invited to share stories, laughter, and memories as they honor a man whose kindness, humor, and love touched everyone he met.

The family will gather in the spring of 2026 for a memorial service and burial, where Dennis will be laid to rest with military honors.
