Deborah L Mcmahon

Dehorah Lynn Houchen McMahon passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 1, 2023. She is survived by her husband Richard, her daughter Annie Slender (Tim), her sisters Paula Oster and Patti Giles, her brother Kerry Denison (Laura), her brother-in-law Dennis McMahon (Dixie) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon & Betty Houchen and Mary Jo & Tom McEnery and her sister Shelli Holub.

Deb was born December 10, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Decatur, Illinois and graduated from Eisenhower High School. After graduating from Drake University, she began her teaching career with the Des Moines Public Schools--a career which lasted over thirty years! During this time, Deb was a contributor to the Register's column "A Better Iowa."

After retirement, Deb volunteered for the VA Hospital, wrote many Letters to the Editor which were published, and supported political causes she believed in.

Deb strongly supported democracy and urges everyone to vote.
