Deanna Sly

Deanna Jean Van Zandt, born February 23, 1977, of Des Moines, passed away on April 4, 2025.

Deanna had a quirky, fun personality. She made everyone laugh with funny things that she would say and do. There was never a dull moment around her, and she never met a stranger.

Her grandkids, dogs, and family were her life. Family was very important to her. She enjoyed road trips, movies, music, cooking, holidays, barbecues, and being outdoors with her dogs. Her favorite musical artist was Selena, and she was possibly her biggest fan.

Deanna is survived by her children, Zachary Van Zandt (Alissa), Shelby Maynard Weiser (Joey), Raymond Sly. Grandchildren Ivan, Athena, Princeton, Colemen, Roni, Elijah, Goderic, Leona, and sisters Heidi Malone (Rodney), Nancy Watson (Mike), Paula Reszel (Paul). Father Paul Van Zandt and stepfather James Armstrong. Along with nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Armstrong, and brother Timothy Miller.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Andrew Majerus, Nicole Vargus, and the staff at Davita for their generous, kind support.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
