Dax Urie

May 6, 1975 — January 6, 2026

Dax Anthony Urie, 50, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on January 6, 2026. Dax was born on May 6, 1975, in Charleston, Illinois, to Charles Urie and Marilyn (Duran) Paro, and he grew up in Charleston, where many of his lifelong memories and friendships began.

On August 30, 2003, Dax married the love of his life, Kristy Porter. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, living over the years in Illinois, Florida, and Iowa. Wherever Dax went, he brought his strong work ethic, warm spirit, and unmistakable presence.

Dax was a hard worker who took pride in everything he did. He was passionate about his Harley-Davidson and especially loved his old red truck, affectionately named Kristine. He enjoyed cooking and grilling for family and friends, spending time fishing, and sharing good food and good stories with the people he loved.

A talented singer, Dax was known for many unforgettable evenings of karaoke, singing alongside Kristy, family, and friends. He had a larger-than-life personality and a great sense of humor, earning him the affectionate title of "the hottest dad on the block." To his daughter, Teghan, he was quite simply the best mechanic in the world-always there without hesitation whenever her car broke down, which seemed to happen weekly.

Above all else, Dax was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, a joyful grandfather, and a loyal son and brother. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Dax is survived by his wife, Kristy Urie; his children, Taunee Urie, Teghan Urie, Christian Weber, and Karly Weber; his grandchildren, Snow, Charleigh, Callister, Jaxton, and Josephina; his mother, Marilyn (Gary) Paro; his brother, Jason Urie; many other family members; and several very close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Urie

Dax's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely. He will be remembered for his strong hands, his generous heart, his voice raised in song, and his unwavering devotion to family.
