David Hollingshead

David Hollingshead passed away August 28, 2024 at home in Des Moines, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, September 9, 2024 at the Euclid Room, next door to Hy-Vee Grocery Store on East Euclid.

David was born December 7, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Rena (Steele) and Gayle Hollingshead. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Crow in 1964. They had four children, Tammy (Jr.) Elswick, Dave Hollingshead, Candy (Kim) Hollingshead and Russ (Celest) Hollingshead. David is survived by his children, 11 grandchildren, Jeramy, Jenny, Sean, Mathew, Zackery, Randi, Jordon, Levi, Little Russ, Cowen and Ellie; 9 great grandchildren, Rae, Alicha, Camilla, Miley, Taylor Jo, Kayla, Jeramy Jr., Sean and Vinny. In 1983 David married his second wife, Jimmy Couch and they had a daughter, Samantha (Jason) Jay and Shanean (Todd) Yaw. This marriage blessed David with 9 more grandchildren, Clayton, Keith, Brett, Kenny, Shawn, Mason, Kiley, Kaden and Charlie; 6 more great grandchildren, Lukas, Paisley, Dallas, GraceLynn, Tucker, Brian and one on the way. David loved all his children, grands and great grands unconditionally.

David was a big Elvis fan, an avid poker player, checkers player, ping pong player and he loved doing card tricks for his grandchildren. David worked for John Deere and then retired from Dart Metro Transportation.

David is survived by his brothers, Jeff and Jimmy and sister, Mandi. He was preceded in death by his parents, his biological father, Vinton Barker and his sister Connie Ratcliff.
