Dusty Hawthorne

Darrell "Dusty" Dean Hawthorne, 56, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on March 31, 2026, at Methodist Hospital surrounded by family.

Dusty was born on April 5, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa. He spent much of his life working as a graphic designer and an independent contractor with Lloyd Maintenance Service. Known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand, Dusty was always ready to help anyone in need.

He had a deep passion for art and creativity. Dusty was a talented artist whose drawings were admired by many. He also enjoyed tattooing and graphic design, using his creativity to express himself and connect with others. In his free time, he liked trying new things-even if, like ice fishing, they didn't always become a favorite pastime.

Dusty shared his life with his devoted partner, Kimberly Du, and grew to love the many dogs she brought home over the years. He was a loving father, proud grandfather, and a cherished son, brother, and friend. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.

He is survived by his partner, Kimberly Du; mother, Paula Nelson his children, Ashley Hawthorne, Matthew Archer, and Emma Maudsley; grandchild, Sullivan; and a brother, Darrin Hawthorne, as well as extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.

Dusty will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the funeral home. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
