Daniel Eugene Pulley, 80 passed away on July 10, 2025 at Mercy West Medical Center
in West Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 3 rd from 1:00 to 4:00 at the
American Legion Post #731,1511 South Union Street, Des Moines, IA 50315.
Danny was born in Chariton Iowa on October 12, 1944 to Gerald Eugene Pulley and
Marjorie Bernice Pulley (Fowler). The family moved to Des Moines in 1953.
Danny went to Des Moines schools, graduating from North High School with the class of
1962. After graduating he followed in his father and brother's footsteps and began his
career in sheet metal. He entered the Sheet Metal Workers Union #45 Apprentice
Program April, 4 th 1963 and became a Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker November, 16,
1967. He worked for Iowa Sheet Metal (now Waldinger), Taylor Industries, Valley Sheet
Metal, and Colonial Sheet Metal. He worked as the Union Business Agent from July
1992 until his retirement date July 1, 2004.
Danny was married to his loving wife Kathy for 27 years. Over the years they were
foster parents for several local rescue organizations. They opened their home, as well
as their hearts, to many abandoned and abused dogs and puppies. They were
successful in placing over 20 rescues with adoptive families who were willing to give
these animals the love, attention and a forever home that they so deserved. If it had four
legs, a tail and barked, it was welcome into the Pulley household.
Also known as Dan, Danny, Pa and "The Shield". He enjoyed fishing, boating at the
Lake of the Ozarks, riding motorcycles (including trips to Sturgis), bowling, and helping
many friends with countless projects. He was the best joke teller and could pull one-
liners from his mental Rolodex.
Danny is survived by his wife, Kathy Pulley; children Gerald/Jerry Eugene Pulley, Des
Moines, IA; Diane (Marty) Newell, Ceres, CA; Trisha Curnes, Des Moines, IA; Sara
(Louie) Baratta, Des Moines, IA; Jami (Chad) Malone, Knoxville, IA; 8 Grandchildren, 3
Great grandchildren; Sister, Roxanne (Mark) Hopkins, Monroe, IA; Brother, John
(Cheryl) Pulley, West Des Moines, IA; Sister-in-law, Jeanne Pulley, Avon Lake, IA.; and
many aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and numerous friends. He is also survived by
the couple's Golden Retriever "Addie Rose".
Danny was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Pulley; mother, Marjorie Pulley;
brother, Gary Pulley; and step-son, John Hughes.
