Clay David "Skippy" Simurdak, 51, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on June 30, 2026.
Clay was born on December 2, 1974, in Libby, Montana, to Thomas Allen Simurdak and Connie Elaine McConnell. He attended Libby Senior High School. Clay proudly served his country in the United States Army for four years, an experience that shaped his lifelong appreciation for friendship, loyalty, and service.
Following his military service, Clay built a career as a DC Power Technician, and worked with National Network Services for many years. He was known for his strong work ethic, technical expertise, and dedication to his profession.
Known affectionately as "Skippy" by friends, Clay had a gift for connecting with people. He was truly a collector of friends, maintaining close relationships with those he met throughout his childhood, military service, and career. His genuine kindness, easygoing personality, and loyal nature made lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A proud Montanan at heart, Clay loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and picking huckleberries in the mountains of his home state. Those moments in nature brought him peace and reminded him of the place he always held close to his heart.
Clay is survived by his parents; sister, Amy Bucknum, and his stepson, Torryn Collinson-Qualls, along with many cherished friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship.
Clay will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his adventurous spirit, his love of the outdoors, and the countless friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
