Charles Phillip Andrews

May 18, 1939 — October 21, 2024

Charles Phillip Andrews, 85, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away on October 21, 2024, in West Des Moines. He was born on May 18, 1939, in Rushville, Nebraska, to Charles Stephen and Susan (née Harris) Andrews. Charles grew up on his family's farm in Nebraska, where he developed a strong work ethic and love for the outdoors.

As an adult, Charles moved to Ames, Iowa, where he worked as a groundskeeper for Iowa State University, dedicating his career to maintaining the beauty of the campus grounds. He married the love of his life, Sandra L. Richards, and together they shared a passion for square dancing as members of the Square Dance Club in Ames. The couple also enjoyed vacationing in Florida, creating cherished memories together.

After Sandra's passing, Charles found solace in traveling across the United States to visit family and friends. He enjoyed woodcarving, a hobby that brought him peace and creativity. In his later years, Charles became an avid participant in Bingo and Wii Bowling, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Charles will be remembered for his kind spirit, dedication to his work, and the joy he found in both travel and his hobbies.

He is survived by his son, Frank (Kim) Andrews; grandchildren, Lynsay (Zach) Nieland, Austin (Brandie) Farr, Kaytlyn Andrews, Vicki Andrews and Morgan Andrews; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Donald Andrews.
