Carolynn Mae Blachley

Carolynn Mae Blachley, age 87, of Des Moines, passed away on March 30, 2026.

She was born on December 2, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert and Maxine (Munson) Elifritz

She found great joy in spending time with her long-time partner, Craig Sandle. Together, they made cherished memories traveling each summer to cottages in Minnesota, as well as to Spirit Lake and Guttenberg. Whether relaxing by the water or enjoying each other's company, those trips were a highlight of her life. At home, they loved watching sports together, and Carolynn was an especially devoted baseball fan who proudly cheered on the Chicago Cubs.

A devoted and generous grandmother, Carolynn adored her three grandchildren-Madison Lantzakis, Peyton Recker, and Nicholas Recker. She took great pride in each of them and treasured every moment spent together.

Carolynn was also a talented seamstress, a gift she shared with her daughter, Heidi. The two created many lasting memories shopping for patterns and fabric, moments filled with laughter, creativity, and love.

She had a special place in her heart for animals and was a devoted pet owner. Her dogs, Holly and Dot, and her rescued cat, Sweetie, brought her constant companionship and joy.

Carolynn is survived by her loving daughter, Heidi; her son-in-law, Doug Recker; and her beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Joy, Nancy, and Judy.
