Betty Lee Hager

Betty Hager passed away on May 16, 2026, at Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa. She was 93 years old.

Betty was born on November 4, 1932, to LeeRoy and Bertha (Cramer) Ruth. She attended Greenfield High School.

Betty was married to Lloyd R Hager on July 19, 1953. They moved to Whidbey Island in Washington where Lloyd was stationed at the Naval Air Station base. When Lloyd got out of the Navy they moved back to Iowa.

They lived in Fort Dodge, Anita, and finally settled in Greenfield in the early 60's and lived there most of her life.

Betty was a homemaker, raising 5 kids, and family was important to her. Betty enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, feeding the birds, and watching the hummingbirds and other birds come to the feeders. She liked road trips and went on many with different kids through the years: Texas, Kansas, Alabama, Arizona, and she even flew to Germany. She would "water" her daughter, Denna, and friends, Gwen Johnston and Tina Newbury when they were running around Greenfield and possibly training for a marathon or a shorter race. She made many trips to watch Denna, Tina and her son Jeff run marathons. Betty loved riding around in the fall to see the colorful trees.

Through the years the family grew by marriages, births, and adopting by love, Pam and Larry Collins.

Darrin and Stacey Hager. Darrin's children, Lincoln and Kara Hager, their children Cameron and Boone, Gabi and Zane McDunn, Stacey's children Adam Haines, Jeramiah and Heidi Schlegel, their children Kade, Kali, Grace, Annie, Maggie and Nate;

Denna Mitchell, children Amanda Mitchell, and her daughters Memphis and Zoey Chaney, Brittany Mitchell and Andy Seely, and Brittany's daughter Claire McManus, Crista and Shannon Phillips, and Crista's daughters, Bella and Madi Reilly, Kaitlyn Mitchell, and her son, Jayce Zimmerline;

and her sister, Darlene Westphal.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, LeeRoy and Bertha Ruth; her brother, Bud Ruth; her sisters, Bernadine Aupperle and Delores Stanley; her husband, Lloyd Hager; her son, Ricki Hager; and son in laws, Dennis Jess and James Mitchell.
