Barbara Christine Young

Barbara Christine Young, born on December 15, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024, in Ankeny. She was the beloved daughter of Harold and Dorothy Young.

Originally born in Des Moines, Barbara graduated from North High School before embarking on a career with the State of Iowa as a Clerk. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her passion for life's simple pleasures. Barbara was a devoted fan of Iowa State. She had such a passion for basketball. She had her eyes glued to the TV and her bracket during March Madness. Barbara found joy in cheering them on year after year. Her love for travel led to countless adventures around the world and she particularly enjoyed cruises where she could bask in the beauty of the open sea.

But perhaps nothing brought Barbara more happiness than her feline companions Izzy Lou and Bella Donna. She had an unparalleled affection for cats and if given the chance would have welcomed every single one at the ARL into her home without hesitation.

In times of need following a medical event that changed everything for Barbara, her family is eternally grateful to MercyOne Rehab Center, Copper Shores Assisted Care Center, Sunny View Care Center, and Suncrest Hospice Services who provided exceptional care during this difficult time.

Barbara is survived by her brothers Rusty and Danny Young as well as her sister Debbie. Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her daughter Heather (Wilson) Fisher; granddaughters Cassandra Corley and Christina (Rene) Senecaut; grandson Matthew (Breanna) Corley; great-grandsons Nash Senecaut, Benny Senecaut, Charles Corley; and great-granddog Franklin. She is preceded in death by both her parents and her Son Christopher Evan Long.

A small family graveside burial will take place April 11th at 10 am at Highland Memory Gardens where Barbara will be laid to rest beside her son Christopher—a reunion that brings both solace and heartache to those who loved them dearly.

Barbara's presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all whose lives were touched by hers—the warmth of her smile remains etched in our hearts forever.
