Barbara Jean Pickett

Barbara J. Pickett, 71, of West Des Moines, IA, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her husband and son. A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2024 at Simplify Cremations & Funerals in Des Moines, IA. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Barbara was born on March 6, 1952 to Paul and Betty (Smithson) Sondall in Story City, IA. Barbara graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. She later attended Des Moines Area Community College studying business. Barbara married her high school sweetheart Roger Pickett on October 17, 1970. They were blessed with 53 years together. Barbara worked at Dahls Groceries for over 25 years in the Customer service department. After Dahls Groceries closed she went to work at Wells Fargo Banking in the Mortgage Department processing loans. After retirement, Barbara enjoyed working part time as a florist and meeting new faces. Barbara enjoyed volunteering her time at Lutheran Hospital as a candy striper. She also loved to travel and go on adventures with her husband. You can find Barbara ice skating and appreciating art. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Pickett of West Des Moines, one son, Andrew Pickett of West Des Moines, one daughter, Carrie Ann Brown, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her dog, JoJo. She is preceded in death by her parents.
