Barbara Jean Johnson

Barbara Jean Johnson, 71, of Boone, Iowa, passed away in 2026. Born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Barbara built a life defined by compassion, determination, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She earned a master's degree, proudly served in the United States Navy for one year, and spent her life pursuing knowledge while caring for those she loved.

On April 1, 1993, Barbara married Kevin Dale Johnson. Together they shared a loving marriage built on friendship and commitment. Throughout her life, Barbara wore many hats-wife, mother, cosmetologist, accountant, telemarketer, professional student, and, above all, devoted mom. She often said that being a mother was her life's greatest occupation, a role she embraced for more than 50 years. Her drive to learn never faded, and she was just four credits shy of earning a master's degree in Criminal Justice, an accomplishment she worked tirelessly toward.

Barbara's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She loved gathering with her children, grandchildren, stepchildren, foster children, and the many people she welcomed into her home and heart. Her door was always open to anyone in need, and she never hesitated to offer help, encouragement, or a listening ear. She had a gift for making everyone feel like family.

She also enjoyed trying her luck on slot machines and was known for her lively personality and wonderful sense of humor. Barbara loved to talk, and those closest to her will forever smile when they remember her jokingly saying, "If you don't answer the phone, I'll send the police and a helicopter to hover over the house." It was a saying that perfectly reflected her loving, persistent spirit and the deep concern she had for those she loved.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Kevin Johnson; her children, Tracy (Bill) Ferrand, Janice Leonard, Judy (Jason) Mayfield, along with many stepchildren and foster children she lovingly considered her own; her siblings, Darlene Madison and Jerry Jones; and a large, loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Jay Pedersen and Eve Jeannette (Ubben) Pedersen, as well as her siblings, William Pedersen and Charlotte Vansice.

Barbara's legacy is one of unconditional love, generosity, perseverance, and service to others. She believed in education, opened her heart to anyone who needed a home, and treasured every moment spent with her family. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated by all whose lives she touched.
