April Dawn Leber, 58 of Perry passed away March 21, 2026, peacefully at home in the company of her husband Matt and her dogs. April had battled MS for the last 16 years and passed due to complications of MS. Instead of a Memorial there was a living wake on March 7, 2026. Many family members were in attendance along with many friends. April enjoyed greeting people as they came to the house to enjoy a Louisiana themed dinner.
April was born April 2, 1967 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Ricky and Jean (Oxborrow) Bendixen.
April married Matt Leber on December 31, 1985. Matt & April were married 40 years 2 months and 21 days. Together they raised two boys Adam & Josh.
She was preceeded in death by her father Ricky Bendixen and mother Jean (Oxboro) Stepfather Dan Hupp. Grandmother Mary Bendixen, Grandfather Ben Bendixen & Uncle Bruce Bendixen.
April worked several jobs starting at the Dairy Stripe, Hardee's, IBP and then decided to go back to school to earn a degree in Commercial Horticulture at DMACC in Ankeny and getting job at DMACC Ankeny campus in the grounds dept. While at DMACC she decided to take more classes and earn her 2nd degee as a Med Lab Tech and secured a job at Broadlawn Hospital in Des Moines. She worked there 7 year before it became to difficult for her to perform her job and decided to retire. April was diagnosed with PPMS in July of 2014 and retired from working in January of 2015. She loved her job and was devastated that she had to retire.
April loved to read, her Corgis Breez, Lily, Jazz, Rocket & Kuma, New Orleans, traveling, watching TV, listening to music & her frog collection. She also assisted Matt for many years with the Dallas County Ducks Unlimited Chapter.
Survivors include Matt (husband) Leber her children Adam (Jessica) Leber, Josh Leber, grand daughters: Audrey & Eleanor, Brother Danny (Diana) Bendixen of Springfield Mo.
There is no Memorial planned currently but will be a gathering in our home at a later date.
